Royal Caribbean is the first cruise line to conduct a test cruise from the Port of New York (Cape Liberty, Bayonne). With Little to no fanfare, Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas made her inagural arrival at the port, sailing to lower Manhattan and then turning around and docking in Cape Liberty on August 19, 2021 at 8:00 AM.
Spending two days dockside, she sailed from Cape Liberty, Bayonnne NJ on Sunday, August 22nd at approximately 7 PM just behind the passing of Hurricane Henri which made its way up the United States East Coast. The Oasis of the Seas sailed from NYC to Royal Caribbean's Private Island (Coco Cay) Returning to Cape Liberty Bayonne NJ on Friday. Reportedly the ships sailed with some 700 passengers, well below the ship's capacity of 6,780 passengers. The guests were comprised of a mix of travel agents, Royal Caribbean employees, and cruise fans that signed up to be volunteers.
If CDC approval is received, Oasis of the Seas is scheduled to restart sailings with paying passengers beginning on September 5 from Cape Liberty.
